It's show time

Thank you all for your support these last few days. I think you'll agree with me that the kids are doing a fabulous job. I received a short video clip from RedXDesign (the company videotaping the show) last night and thought I would share it with all of you. We will be taking video orders through tonight. Click here to access the link.

One Last Thing

I just made final arrangements with a video imaging company called RedXMedia to come out and videotape the show.  I am really excited with the services that he is going to provide for us.  He will be at the school all day on Saturday and videotape both shows.  He will also do some video of the kids rehearsing, getting ready, and the cast party.  This will all be included on the video along with the show.  If you are interested in ordering a video the cost is $21.00 (this is his whole cost, we are not making any money off of the video).  I have included an order form here.  You can print one out and bring it to the Hidden Hollow office anytime this week.  Or you can pick up an order form at Frontier during any of the rehearsals or performances next week.

The Time Has Finally Arrived

I feel like I have so many things to announce this week, and I will probably forget a few things. Please leave a comment or send a question to my email if this post is unclear or incomplete.
First of all on Friday your child should have come home with a letter with instructions for next weeks practices and performances.  If you have not seen this letter, please click here to access the letter. Attached to the letter was a list of specific clothing items that your child needs for their "playground" outfit that they need to wear prior to their "Wonderland" outfit.  If you have questions about what your child needs to wear, please comment or send me an email.
Second, there is a small discrepancy with times outlined in the letter pertaining to the Saturday schedule.  The Saturday matinee will start at 2:30, not at 2:00.  Therefore we don't need the kids to be at the school until 12:30, rather than 12:00.  Here is the outline again for the practices/performances.
Monday, April 18th: 4:00-8:00
Tuesday, April 19th: 4:00-8:00
Wednesday, April 20th: 4:00-8:00
Friday, April 21st: 4:00-8:00
Saturday, April 23rd: 12:30-8:00
Please make note of a couple of things.  I know that on Monday and Tuesday for our tech rehearsal and dress rehearsal, we will use every minute of that time.  I am a little unsure about the performance nights. The show will start at 6:00 and it is about an hour and 20 minutes.  This means that your child will be done anywhere from 7:30-8:00.  Please know that I will have my cell phone there and am happy to have them call to be picked up early, but we won't have access to a school telephone to call home.  Also, I know this might be difficult due to rides, but if you have a choir member, they don't need to be to the school until 30 minutes after the cast members.  If you only have a child in the choir, please bring them at 4:30 instead of 4:00 and 1:00 instead of 12:30.  If you have a cast and choir member just bring them at the same time.
I know that some of you are concerned about rehearsals being during dinnertime.  Please send snacks and or a sack lunch with your child during the rehearsal/performance times.  On Saturday Chick-Fil-A will be donating lunch/dinner in between the matinee and evening performances.  They might still need a snack or two.  The PTA will also be there selling snacks.
You can still purchase pre-sale tickets in the office at school until Tuesday.  I will also have parents selling tickets at the middle school on Monday and Tuesday.  The pre-sale tickets are $3 for children (any school age child) and $5 for adults.  There is a family ticket you can buy (2 adults and 4 children) for $20.  After Tuesday all tickets are $5 and the family ticket is $25

Update on our moving day!

I just got word that the Miss. Eagle Mountain pageant will be on both Friday evening and Saturday all day, so we won't be able to be at the middle school until Monday.  I know this is very difficult for most of you since you are probably at work during the day, but we could use all the help we could get on Monday.  We will be meeting at the school at 8:00 (just after A track traffic) and loading trucks.  We will need to bring stuff over to the middle school and get things ready and organized for the kids to arrive by 4:00.  Please if you have access to a truck and or trailer and can have it here at the school at 8:00 Monday morning; or if you can meet us at the Middle school and spend some time with us on Monday to get things organized and ready I would really appreciate it.  Please either let me know via email jcoombs@alpinedistrict.org or comment here on the blog.  You can also pop your head into my classroom Rm. 111 or stop by rehearsal on Wednesday or Thursday to let me know.
Thank you so much and I appreciate your willingness to help out!

A Sign Up Genius Update

I have an unfortunate update to the sign up genius that was sent out over the weekend.  I was notified by the Middle School that we will be unable to take props, sets, and costumes over on Friday afternoon, due to the Miss Eagle Mountain pageant being held that evening.  I am working with Mr. Clark over at the school to see if there is a possibility of bringing things over on Saturday sometime.  If you have signed up for that time slot, please let me know if a change to Saturday works for you or not.  You can send me an email jcoombs@alpinedistrict.org, or just make a comment on the blog.  I will let you all know as soon as I hear back from the Middle School.

It's Getting So Close

This is going to be a long post, so be patient with me and please read to the very end.  The end is so close and we are all getting so excited for show time.
First of all, I will be sending out papers with each of the cast and choir members indicating what they will need to bring with them to Frontier Middle School.    All of these items were posted in a previous post and you should be aware of them.  Please be aware that we are not at Frontier this week, but we will begin rehearsals there next Monday, April 18th.
Secondly, I am including in this post a link to a Sign Up Genius.  The week at Frontier will be a crazy but fun one, and I need all the help I can get from Parent volunteers.  I CAN NOT do it without you.  Please look over the list of items needed and sign up whenever and wherever you can.  Two of the really important sign ups are for Friday, April 15th (this coming Friday) and Saturday, April 23rd (after the final show), we need parents with Trucks, Vans and or Trailers to take everything over to the middle school and bring it back.  We have a lot of items (big and small) that need transported.  I know this seems like a lot of hassle and hard work, but we are so grateful to have such wonderful facilities so close to us to perform in.  Per our contract with the Middle School, we need to have everything out on Saturday night.  Just remember Many Hands make Light Work :).
Click HERE to access the Sign Up Genius
Lastly,  here is the schedule for this week:
Monday, April 11th, Wednesday, April 13th and Thursday, April 14th
All Cast, Crew and Choir members.
These days we will be running over and over the show (fixing and refining) things to get ready for the show.  We will be using all of the props, sets and most of the costumes that we have.

I guess this wasn't as long as I thought it was going to be.  Thank you all so much for what you do to help, and for sharing your AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, and TALENTED children with me.  It has been so much fun to watch them all grow in confidence as they develop and improve upon their talents.

Spring Break

We will not be having practices this week due to Sprung Break. However, we will be having a couple of work days to finish up last minute costumes, sets, and props. If you are available we could use some help this week on Tuesday and Thursday at Hidden Hollow. We will be meeting at the school at 10:00. If you want to stay and work on projects that would be great, or if you would like to pick something up to work on at home and bring back to us, that would be fine too.
Also, if you are a local business owner or you know local business owners who would be interested in advertising in our program please let me know. We are looking to finalize the programs and get them printed on April 11th so I will need to have their information prior to that date. You can either comment on this post or email me jcoombs@alpinedistrict.org if you are interested in advertising. Thanks again.

March 21st, 23rd, and 24th

There were a couple of concerns that were brought to my attention when I announced the additional rehearsals for the next couple of weeks, so I thought I would address those first thing.  First of all, I a realized that this Thursday, March 24th is also the Hidden Hollow talent show.  The show starts at 6:00 that night, so we will end rehearsals at 5:00 so we can set chairs up and get ready for the show.  Secondly, I am also aware that the following week is Clear Creek for the 5th graders, and I am trying to plan accordingly so that we are missing the least amount of students as possible.  I am not planning on any 5th grade girl being at rehearsal on Wednesday, March 30th or any 5th grade boy being at rehearsal on Friday, April 1st.  With that being said, here is the plan for this week:

March 14th and 16th

Last week, t shirts were passed out to all cast, choir and stage crew members.  I was, however, a few  shirts short.  If your child didn't receive their shirt, please email me jcoombs@alpinedistrict.org, or send your child in to talk to me.  I have a few more shirts being printed, and I should have them by Monday evening or early Tuesday.
At this point in the game, we have 8 more scheduled rehearsals.  While we are making great progress, and I am so happy with the show thus far, I am certain we will not be ready without adding a couple of rehearsal dates over the next few weeks.  Please make note of the following dates: for the week of March 21st, we will be rehearsing on Monday the 21st, Wednesday the 23rd and Thursday the 24th.  For the week of March 28th, we will be rehearsing Monday March 28th, Wednesday March 30th, and Friday April 1st.  I hate to have a rehearsal on a Friday afternoon, however, the gym is already scheduled for Thursday, March 31st.  We will not have any rehearsals during spring break, however, we will probably have a couple of "word days," to get last minute sets, props and costumes finished up.  The week of April 11th, we will be rehearsing on Monday the 11th, Wednesday the 13th and Thursday the 14th.
Here is the schedule for the week of the show:
Monday, April 18th:  4:00-8:00 at Frontier Middle School (tech rehearsal)

Saturday, April 23rd: 12:00-8:00 at Frontier Middle School (matinee performance, cast party and nighttime performance)
For those of you who have trucks and/or trailers and are willing to help, we will be moving all sets, props and costumes to Frontier on Friday, April 15th.  We will also need help moving it all back to Hidden Hollow after the night performance on Saturday, April 23rd.

March 7th and 9th

It was fun and exciting to go through the show last week and see how far we have come.  I was also reminded of how much work we still have.  I want to take some time this week to work on dialogue, blocking as well as projection, expression etc. with our speaking characters.
I have a couple of announcements before I post the schedule for this week.  First, we have given 2 tickets for each family in the show.  These have been put in the teacher's mailboxes.  They should be distributing them sometime this coming week.  These will be sent home with the oldest child in each family.  Second, we should be getting our t shirts either later this week or next.  If you haven't paid your donation yet, please do so as soon as possible so we can get the t shirts distributed to your child.
Lastly, here is the plan for Monday and Wednesday.
Monday, March 7th
Caterpillars and Small Alice:
You will be finishing up Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah and working on lines and blocking.

Any parents who signed up to work on Flower Costumes or any parent who would like to help
If you are able to come to rehearsal on Wednesday, I would really appreciate it.  We have assigned several costumes to girls, but we need to work on getting the other ones ready.  I have several dresses that I've picked up and these dresses are in desperate need of a makeover.  I want to get this all situated soon.  (And the girls are dying to have a costume:) )

A Small Update

I just wanted to make a small update to this week's rehearsals.  I need for the Tweedles to come to both Monday's and Tuesday's rehearsals.
Also, I need all cast members to BRING YOUR SCRIPTS this week.  We will be writing stage directions in our scripts this week as we block scenes.

Friday, February 19, 2016

February 22nd and 24th

It seems like it's been a while since we have had two rehearsals in one week.  I am excited to have a couple of days to get a lot done.  This week we're going to have smaller groups coming to learn new dances and blocking and review what we have learned so far so we can fine tune.  We are almost half way through the show and it's looking good.
Monday, February 22nd
Caterpillars and Small Alice:
You are going to be working on Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah choreography.
Tweedles
You will be practicing How D'Ye Do and Shake Hands
All Cards
I know this is going to seem pretty inconvenient for some of you, but I am only going to need the cards to come for about 20-30 minutes on Monday.  We have rented about 20 costumes from Thunder Ridge for the cards and many of them are a bit too long for our students.  On Monday I have a few parents who have volunteered to come to try costumes on kids and start altering costumes and working on the remaining 30 costumes that need to be sewn.  Consequently, all we need your child for on Monday is to try a costume on.  If your child is a B tracker, they will probably just be walking home a little later than normal.  If your child is an A tracker, I am sorry that you will have to bring them back for a minute and then take them back home.  Please feel free to stay and wait a few minutes.  We will be as quick as possible.

Wednesday, February 24th
Flowers:
You will be learning Golden Afternoon as well as finishing up the flowers we started on last rehearsal
Mathilda, Alice, Cats, White Rabbit, Doorknob, Small Alice, Tall Alice  You are going to have a small tech rehearsal while we work on the blocking we have learned already through Scene 2.  We will have props and sets stage crew to work with as we fine tune these scenes.
Tweedles
You will be blocking Scene 3 as we work with stage crew.
Props and Stage Crew
We will be working with characters as we go through the script and make prop and scenery assignments for the first couple of scenes in the play.
Choir
You will be working on songs we have already learned as well as learning a couple of new ones.

Monday, February 15, 2016

February 17th

Wednesday, February 17th
White Rabbit, Cats, Alice, 3rd and 4th Grade Cards
You will be working on I'm Late.

Creatures, Lobsters, Small Alice and Dodo Bird
You will be working on and finishing up Ocean of Tears and Caucus Race.

You will be working on and finishing up How D'Ye Do and Shake Hands.  We also will be blocking lines between Caucus Race and How D'Ye Do.

Stage Crew
We will have a short meeting with Mrs. Coombs and Miss. Ovard.  The meeting will probably only last about 30 to 45 minutes.

Choir
Choir practice will probably go from 3:30-5:00.

A Few Updates

I am so excited and impressed with all that has been going on over the last month or so during rehearsals.  I am impressed with the amount of work that all of your children are putting into the show.  We are making great progress and by the end of this week we will have everything blocked and choreographed through Scene 4.  That makes me so excited and happy.

I am writing this post for a couple of different reasons.  First of all I want to let you know of a couple of things that are coming up.  Next week we will be starting to meet with our stage crew.  I have quite a few kids that are signed up for stage crew, however, I know that some of you are only interested in working with hair and make-up.  We need to have a meeting with all stage crew and this meeting will be on Wednesday, February 17th during rehearsal time.  Secondly, I am getting ready to order t-shirts.  Just as a reminder, t-shirts are for all cast, crew and choir members.  The cost of the t-shirts is covered by the donations that have been collected.  If you haven't paid your donation yet, please do so as soon as possible.  If you are unable to pay the donation, please send me a private email and let me know, jcoombs@alpinedistrict.org.

The last thing I need to make you aware of is regards to costumes.  This musical is a bit different than last year, in that each cast member will have a pre-Wonderland costume as well as a Wonderland costume.  Our budget is not big enough to cover the cost associated with providing 2 costumes for each cast member, so I need your help.  I have included a list of characters in the musical and costumes that they need for the opening number.  These items should be things that they already have at home.  Please find your child's character name and the items of clothing they need.

Alice (small, medium and tall):
White tights, black dress shoes

Cheshire Cats
Denim Overalls (shorts, pants or capris are fine)
Tennis Shoes

White Rabbit
Blue Jeans and a plain colored t-shirt
Tennis Shoes

Mad Hatter
Bright Colored leggings and a plain colored t-shirt (doesn't need to match)
Crazy socks

March Hare
Shorts or jeans and plain colored t-shirts

Doorknob
Jeans and Brown colored shirt

Queen of Hearts
Red t-shirt and black pants (shorts or capri's are fine)

King of Hearts
Pants and top that have any combination of red, white and black

Royal Cardsman/Cards
Jeans and plain t-shirts (any color is fine).  They can wear jean shorts, pants or capris.
Cards also will need black pants and black long sleeved shirts to wear under their card costume.  The pants can be sweats,  or leggings and the shirts can have a graphic on the front cause it will be covered, it just needs to have long sleeves.

Rose, Petunia, Lily, Violet, Daisy and Flower Ensemble
Anything with a flower print on it (dress, pants, shirts)  You can mix and match plain with flowered print for example flower leggings and plain t-shirt, or jeans and a flower print t-shirt.

Caterpillars
Jeans and orange or green plain t-shirt

Dodo Bird
Jeans and t-shirt, nothing particular

Lobsters
Leggings and plain colored t-shirts

Creatures
Jeans and t-shirts (shorts, capris or jeans are fine)

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum
Jeans and striped t-shirts (red and white, blue and white or black and white stripes)

Also, all female cast members need to have a black pair of short spandex (bike shorts) or spankys and a cami to wear under their costume.  Due to the number of people in the musical and quick costume changes, it is best if they have something under their costume so they can quickly change and stay modest.

Thank you all again for your help and cooperation with all of this.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment or email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

January 25th and 27th Rehearsal

I hope that this post is not too confusing.  First of all, we are making good progress and it has been great the last couple of weeks to be able to break into small groups and work on things that pertain to our specific characters.  I am very appreciative to all of the volunteers who have come to help out thus far.  Second, it seems that in my planning, I am trying to do too much in one day.  We are just not getting through as much as I would like to.  What can I say;  I dream big! :)  In saying that, this is what we will be working on this week.

January 11th and 13th rehearsals

Rehearsals will begin this week on Monday. All cast members will need to be at both rehearsals. Monday and Wednesday from 3:30-5:30. We will be working on the opening number; Dodgesonland parts 1 and 2. Choir members and stage crew do not need to come this week.  Also, if you haven't turned in your paperwork or your donations you can turn that into the front office. We will have a card reader at Monday's rehearsal if you want to pay by debit or credit card.
